In the mid-1980’s, a Morris enthusiast and historian from Totnes in Devon named Chris Farr, by dint of patient and diligent additional research was able to piece together the steps and movements which made up the old Filkins tradition of Morris Dancing which thrived hereabouts until towards the end of the nineteenth century. He introduced the rediscovered dances to his colleagues in the Dartington Morris Men, and they learned them and now feature them in their Cotswold repertoire, the only Morris side in the country to do so.
The Dartington Morris Men have visited Filkins several times since at Feast time, to show off their skills and demonstrate the Filkins dances, which appear to have required considerable strength, agility and stamina to perform. The side is well-known in the South-west but occasionally tours farther afield.
