Housed in a 17th century cottage, this fine collection of local domestic, agricultural, trade and craft tools provides a unique picture of a bygone rural community.
One of Oxfordshire’s oldest small rural museums, it was originally set up by George Swinford in the 1930’s with the help of Sir Stafford Cripps.
2010 Season
After a successful season we are now preparing for next year. The subjects covered will be ‘The History of Gardening’ giving an insight into the way the Victorians cultivated their gardens. The other exhibition will be celebrating 80 years of the Village Centre in Filkins. Do you know who and why it came about? No! Then make a visit next year to learn all.
Early next year the Museum is renewing its Accreditation, this involves quite a lot of work. Without Accreditation we cannot apply for grants so it is quite necessary to obtain it if the Museum is to continue to function. If you have spare time and are interested in helping please do not hesitate to contact Diane or Peter as below.
We are open the first Sunday of the month from May to September
2.30 – 5.00 or by appointment telephone
