"Young" George Swinford at the Swinford Museum at Filkins |
Housed in a 17th century cottage, this fine collection of local domestic, agricultural, trade and craft tools provides a unique picture of a bygone rural community.
One of Oxfordshire's oldest small museums, it was originally set up by "Old" George Swinford in the 1920's and 1930's, and the Swinford family is still represented on the board of trustees.

| LIVING HISTORY
Since 2003, the Trustees of the Museum have been active in managing a project to capture the memories and experiences of people who lived or who were associated with Filkins and Broughton Poggs during and immediately after World War 2. A priceless library of audio tapes recording these reminiscences has been built up, much of it transcribed and available in printed form, together with a fascinating collection of old photographs and other memorabilia. These may be accessed at the Swinford Museum. |
