2011 Events
We started the year with the presentation of the Lil Gibbs Trophy. Lil had been a member of Filkins and Broughton Poggs WI for many years and in her memory her daughters Margaret and Mary presented the WI with a cup. 2011 is the first time this trophy has been presented and current members nominated Elizabeth Gidman to receive the award for the year.

The 2011 program has been varied and there have been speakers on Pets for Therapy, The Criminal Compensation Appeals Tribunal, The Kingdom of the Thunder Dragons in Bhutan, Wool and Weaving.
Social events are an important part of the current WI program and in July we had a "Great British" evening with a three course meal prepared by Hilary and Allison.
In August we have a "Bring and Share" meal and then at Christmas we enjoy a seasonal meal at a restaurant.

Many members have enjoyed the visits planned by the Oxfordshire Federation. This year several members attended the Science lectures at Harwell and learnt about
"The Northern Lights" and at another lecture about "Pressure". An excellent visit to Barley Park Farm on a very wet day, gave members the opportunity to see lambs being born – well some that where an hour old.

Members have been experiencing Russian and Irish culture, learning more about
"The Real Lark Rise" and being entertained with "Hilarious Hats".
The resolutions this year were: "Should local libraries be saved" and "Should there be Mega Farms" – both topics caused lively debates.
2010 Events
At the February 2010 WI meeting, to tie in with Mardi Gras, a fun Venetian evening was held when members turned their hands to being creative making masks and other decorative items which were then displayed!
